Carlos Bielsa — Managing Partner & Chief AI Officer, BIT Capital
In his own words
On how BIT Capital positions itself, speaking to Citywire Elite Companies in September 2026:
“The very technologically sophisticated asset managers tend to be systematic and quant. We are not a systematic shop, but we are also not Warren Buffett buying and holding.”
Citywire Elite Companies, 8 September 2026
On why an AI agent alone will not generate returns:
“If you just ask an agent which stocks to buy, it’s going to be consensus. You need to have a way to make money in markets, and we have our own — because we have that alpha, that proven method, you can try to automate it more and more with AI and improve it.”
Citywire Elite Companies, 8 September 2026
On agentic AI in fundamental research:
“We use agentic AI very deeply in research. It has access to all our data, all our signals, all our investment heuristics. This allows you to automate or codify a lot of the fundamental reasoning, to scale it up and make it more systematic.”
Citywire Elite Companies, 8 September 2026
“We have agents that are able to scan the investment universe based on in-house heuristics and then come back and tell you: ‘these are the top 10 ideas I could find’. Then the analysts can look into them.”
Citywire Elite Companies, 8 September 2026
On what remains human:
“We humans are very good at identifying interesting opportunities, building the conviction behind them, knowing when to stick with the conviction even though the superficial facts will tell you not to.”
Citywire Elite Companies, 8 September 2026
“Combining all the perspectives into solid decisions will be the most difficult part to automate with AI because it’s very nuanced. You cannot codify it with simple rules.”
Citywire Elite Companies, 8 September 2026
On using AI to check human bias:
“We can compare our human judgement with what the system is telling us and if there’s a big disagreement, we can look into the reasons. Maybe it’s because we are biased, like we’re in love with some CEO.”
Citywire Elite Companies, 8 September 2026
On the shift in AI demand from training to inference, speaking to Citywire Elite Companies in September 2026:
“Inference is now going into production. Enterprises are now deploying AI, and consumer companies are really starting to launch AI products. That’s the change.”
Citywire Elite Companies, 15 September 2026
“[Y]ou have agents producing tokens, but they are also doing tool execution all the time. You need a CPU environment, networking, and databases. All that is already offered by AWS. I believe nobody can monetise tokens as well as AWS for enterprises.”
Citywire Elite Companies, 15 September 2026
On energy as the binding constraint for AI:
“We really think energy is the scarcest resource for artificial intelligence. You have some companies which are monopolies or oligopolies, and suddenly you have this huge demand ramp-up where supply cannot catch up. It’s like the perfect business setup.”
Citywire Elite Companies, 8 September 2026
Coverage
The AI inference boom: Three stocks this €1.4bn AA manager is backing to profit
Companion piece to the 8 September profile. Three holdings illustrate AI moving into real-world application: the shift in data-centre demand from training models to inference and why that favours the most complete cloud service suite; an insurer built as a technology company that uses AI to combine fast growth with an improving loss ratio; and secured power and land as the scarcest assets for AI data centres, underwritten as an asset play with protected downside.
Inside the AI strategy supercharging BIT Capital tech fund’s 1,029% return
A profile of how AI is used across BIT Capital’s investment process — what the firm calls “human x AI co-intelligence”. The systems process more than 80 terabytes of raw data a day, generate hundreds of near-real-time signals per covered company and run over 30 AI-supported processes across a universe of roughly 4,000 companies. The BIT Global Technology Leaders fund holds 20–30 actively traded positions, with around three quarters of trades influenced by AI-generated insights, and has returned 1,029% since inception in early 2019. Risk management is the one area applied systematically; automatic risk controls explain the fund’s 16.2% cash position at the end of August 2026.
